USMLE Research/Survery for Malaysian Candidates

This is Dr Yee (M2/98 batch).

I represent the education group from UK doing the research for USMLE candidates in Malaysia.

I understand from Cathy that you and a group of friends are interested in taking part.

Let me first thank you for your enthusiasm.

May I know how many of you are planning to participate?

We are organizing the group to be held on 15 January 2010, 16 January 2010 at IMU Bukit Jalil campus so that it will be convenient for you guys. 17 January is the IMU Open Day, so I think that would be out of question.

I am really hoping you can spread the news far/wide and tell your colleagues that we are doing this. Participants will be guaranteed renumeration of RM100 per person. So, I think why not come and share your thoughts on how you prepare for USMLE and the hurdles you face as you earn some handsome cash.

We are short on participants now. But I know there are many prospective USMLE candidates at IMU. It's possible that the news has not reached them yet.

A major provider of medical education products is currently recruiting for a market research project on exam revision for MRCP and USMLE exams.

The groups will take place in Penang and Kuala Lumpur between 15th and 17th January 2010 and last 1.5- 2 hours. Attendees will be paid 100 MYR for their time, and refreshments will be provided.

3. IMU OPEN DAY 2010-those of you looking for something to do and earn a couple of bucks, read on ;)

SSD needs 150 students for the Open Day on 17 Jan 09 from 9.00 am to 4.00 pm. The students will be paid RM15 per person if they worked half day. And if it's a full day, they will be paid RM30 per person. Meals will be included.

Also 2 students are needed (1 male & 1 female) to be deejays for the IMU open day on 17 Jan 2010. These students must speak well and lively. They are to make announcements on that day on & off. 4. IMU goes Greek: Invitation to watch Oedipus the King

Dear all,

With great pleasure and much anticipation, I welcome you to appreciate an adaptation of the Greek tragedy Oedipus the King by the ME108 Humanities selective students.

First performed in 429 BC, Oedipus the King by Sophocles tells the tale of a tragic hero who treads the painful and fearful road to self discovery.

The play will be staged on 16 Dec 2009, 7.00-8.30pm at Audi 1, IMU Bukit Jalil. Admission is free.

Dress code in the library

Dear all,

As there have been many incidents of theft and outsiders coming into IMU to use our facilities, the SRC and SSD would like for the library to ensure that the students who use the library abide by the dress code and wear their IMU ID tags at all times.

Therefore, starting from the 16th of November (Monday), the librarians will turn away all students who do not comply to the IMU dress code including neck-ties and the IMU ID tag. Students are requested to take note of this matter and to please abide by the new rule for the everyone's safety.

Also, as a few students have inquired, on the 31st of October the library opened 20 minutes later than usual as the staff on-duty could not start her car (incidently, both staff members are housemates and come to work together). The head librarian would like to apologize for the inconvenience caused.

ATTENTION: Appeal for organized behaviour at Medical Museum

Dear batch mates, I believe this is very relevant to our batch considering that Sem 5 involves us spending a lot of time in the MMS!!

Dear all,

Please take note of this matter and please take it seriously. This is for everyone's knowledge, even if you don't use the medical museum. Please spread the word to your batchmates at lectures and put it up on your respective batch blogs :

IMU has been purchasing expensive models for many years in significant numbers so that the students can have a good learning experience. The students should also reciprocate by helping in up-keep of these models.

Recently it has been found that the students are taking away model parts or are not keeping the models properly after the study. I found some students telling that re-assembing the parts of a model, after they have finished the study, is the job of museum staff. I am sorry to say that it does not reflect a professional behaviour. If a student has dismantled a model to study, it is his or her obligation to re-assemble the parts. In case he or she is not able to do that , help of museum staff should be taken.

As Medical Science students are mostly using the models intensively for study, the SRC representatives of Medical Sciences are requested to look into the matter and appeal to the students for more organized and professional behaviour in Medical Museum.

In case, the problem is continued, as museum coordinator I would have no other option but to keep few models in cupboards under lock & key and allow the students to use few models only for study.

Dear SRC

I really urge students to please be more responsible when handling the models. I can still tolerate it when some students don't put models back and leave them scattered around, making it likely that parts can go missing or broken (as this has happened before) and make it difficult for others to use but I find it really irresponsible when they unscrew the models, eg the skeleton and never bother where they put the screw and just leave the detached part on the table and the screw is nowhere to be found.

I have high expectations especially for medical students and these students use the museum more than the others so it's really disappointing to observe such irresponsible behaviour.

For students who have been good and responsible ..I thank you all so much because it's cool to be nice.

My group's research title is about Stress and Anxiety level of Medical Students from all semesters 2 weeks prior to any exams. 3. IMU Acoustic Night

Hey there guys.

I'm Ben from the Music and Performance Club and I'm in charge of publicizing our upcoming event "Acoustic Night" which will be held on the 27th of October in the dance studio from 7.00pm onwards. Having said that I would like to request for the help of the batchreps to make announcements regarding this event anytime within the coming week (19th Oct) and more importantly on the day before the event (26th) itself.

The event is free-of-charge and is not limited to the M&P club members and so is open to all faculties in IMU. Activities include open-mike sessions for acoustic jammings and also live, unplugged performances from a few well-known performers in IMU. Do mention as well that some light refreshments will be provided.

I've included with this email a large-sized e-poster/wallpaper and a slightly downsized e-flier for your perusal should you decide to put it up on your batchblogs (which we strongly encourage/urge/beseech/beg you to). It also makes a good desktop wallpaper for your computers. haha.

1. Disaster Fund

Dear All,

I'm sure that you are already aware of the recent disasters in Manila and Padang. Mercy Malaysia has sent a team to each location for initial assessment, and they anticipate that there is a great need for both locations to be assisted, especially with more bad weather forecasted.

In view of the recent disasters, we would be grateful if you could highlight the urgency of funds to be raised for their response to Manila and Padang.

At the moment, all donations are still channeled to MERCY Malaysia, or MERCY Humanitarian Fund. I have attached a donation form for those who are interested in making a donation.

3. MICROWAVE AND FIRST AID KIT FOR STUDENTS

Dear All,

I am pleased to inform you that the First Aid Kit in the Student Lounge has been filled up for a while already by the SRC.

What the inside of the First Aid Box looks like when it's filled up.

However, if we find that the items inside the box are once again stolen we will unfortunately have to stop placing anything inside the box and it shall remain forever empty.

So please be considerate of other and use the box to treat real injuries and emergencies.

Also, this is a reminder to all students that eating inside the student lounge is prohibited.

If you want to eat, please eat in the eating area inside the SRC office or on the tables of the first, second and fourth floor if it's outside food. If it's food from the canteen please eat it in the canteen, not the student lounge.

This is to prevent any rat infestation and unsightly stains (which have been increasing recently) in the student lounge.

Dear all,

Here is a survey that we would like the students to fill in so we can work on improving the canteen for students.

There are only 11 questions because we don't want to waste students time on it or have them quit doing it halfway. At the same time we want to get as much feedback as possible.

The Centre for Medical Education (CtME), with the assistance of the Learning Resources Dept, has scheduled a continuing series of lunchtime educational sessions in support of advancing e-learning and use of digital resources at IMU. The venue will be E-Lab 1, Level 3, Bukit Jalil.

The title for next Wednesday's learning session is E-Assessment (Moodle) scheduled for
7th October 2009, 12.15 -1.15pm and is opened to all faculty and students.

Description:
In this 1-hour learning session, you will explore how to efficiently set-up and construct quizzes in IMU Learning Portal (Moodle). You will also learn how to create quizzes efficiently using Notepad (offline) and reusing questions from Moodle's question bank.

As its on a first come basis, please register early to ensure a place in the learning session. If you miss a session, visit the E-Learning Innovation Centre in http://www.elearning.imu.edu.my to find the appropriate presentations and learning resources.

APACPH (Asia-Pacific Academic Consortium for Public Health) is an international non-profit organisation registered in Australia, comprising many of the largest and most influential schools of Public Health in the Asia-Pacific region and dedicated to improving professional education for public health. Launched in 1984 with just five members, APACPH now has over 55 members throughout the Asia-Pacific region with Regional Offices in Bangkok, Beijing, Brisbane, Hawaii and Tokyo. Through its activities, the members aim to tackle the unique public health challenges of the Asia-Pacific region, for example specific health issues of workers within the growing economies of the region.

The Asia-Pacific Early Career Network in Public Health (APECNPH) aims to support students and early career professionals in the field of public health throughout the Asia-Pacific region. The network will provide a forum for discussion, promote understanding of global public health issues and provide guidance specifically for individuals in the early stages of their career. The network is supported by the APACPH.

Hello all!

On the 15th of August 2009, there will be a debate competition organized by International Medical University and sponsored by the Ministry of Higher Education in IMU. The topic of the debate is ‘Book Smart vs Street Smart’.

Our guest of honor will be Prof. Dr. Mohd. Fauzi Bin Hj. Ramlan, from the Department of Student Affairs and Student Development, Ministry of Higher Education. We also have invited all representatives from private institutions in the Klang Valley.

A few students with fever have been detected in the IMU in the past few days. They were given a face mask and advised to go home and rest. Anyone with fever should not be in the campus. If you notice any student in your class or any person in your section who is ill, please ask him or her to wear a mask, and rest at home. If necessary, see a GP. A mask can be obtained from Dr Ranjit De Alwis or from the Clinical Skills Unit.

Category E – Dance

1. The theme of this contest is : Health care Go M.A.D ( Make A Difference ).

2. The competition will be conducted on 8th September 2009 .

3. Each team is allowed a minimum number of 2 people and a maximum number of 8 people. Participants may use any number of songs but each team is only allowed a maximum of 6 minutes performance time.

4. Participants may use any dance form(s).

5. Song choices MUST NOT contain vulgarities and obscenity.

6. The dateline for registration is 14th August 2009. Late entries will not be entertained.

7. Participants must be in appropriate “Dance” dress code (i.e. not too revealing), the Judging Committee reserves the rights to bar any participants of the competition, should his/her dress code be deemed unfit.

8. Recycling of dancers to other groups is STRICTLY prohibited.

9. A grace period of 5 minutes will be given to teams who turn up late, after which they will be officially disqualified

SHORT FILM COMPETITON

IMU Art Festival 2009

Short Film Competition Rules:

There is no charge to enter a film in this contest.

Deadline for entries is August 20, 2009.

Filmmakers must be IMU current students and staff.

The theme of this contest: Go M.A.D (make a difference). Tell a tale or two regarding how one can lend a hand in changes for the better.

Films must be original. Entries can be in any video form; short movies, photo essays, music videos, etc.

IMU reserves the right to use all entries in the future.

No pornography or over excessive graphic violence, and sensitive issues please. Try to keep productions at a PG13 rating or below.

Directors are allowed to submit more than one entry, but a separate entry form must be completed for each.

Sailing Trip
The Ministry of Higher Education is organizing the “IPTS Sailing Adventure2009 ” which is opened to student participants from all private universities. Participants of this adventure will be taken for a sailing journey with the Royal Malaysian Navy vessel MV Fajar Samudera from 6th to 9th of October 2009. The students participating in this event will be exposed to land and sea activities in Pulau Sembilan, Pulau Pangkor and Langkawi. We are currently still short of 2 male participants. The whole trip will be sponsored by the Ministry. Please contact Miss Aznah from SSD for more information no later than 10th of August 2009. Places are based on a first-come-first-serve basis.

1.Dress Code
The administration has expressed concerns over the lack of students' adherence to the dress code lately. Please be reminded that it is imperative to adhere to the dress code to maintain a sense of professionalism as well as for security reasons. The SRC will have a meeting with first time offenders to discuss the matter. Students who fail to comply by the dress code will then be sent to May Kuan, SSD. A third time offender will be sent to the Dean whereby disciplinary action can be taken and a counseling session may be arranged. Please take this matter seriously as it may affect your record. We are not restricting your expression of individuality but please do so within IMU's policy ie no jeans, mini skirts,etc.

2.Student ID
Kindly wear your student ID at all times. Students who do not have one will have to register with their IC with the guards.

3.Lost and Found

SRC is not in charge of Lost and Found. Please proceed to the Facilities and Management Department on the Second Floor, near MPH if you have lost/found something.

4.MAPCU Foosball competition

Registration for MAPCU Foosball team is currently open, anyone interested in representing the university and/or who has a team, please contact Ms Aznah at the Student Services Department by Thursday 23 July 2009.

5.IMU ART FESTIVAL
It's time again for one of the biggest event held in IMU -the 2009 IMU Art Festival.

7. MMS Heart Models Missing
There are two heart models in the MMS (small ones that for the lung model) missing since December last year. Anyone holding on to it, please return it to SRC or MMS immediately. Don't worry, no action will be taken and all of us will appreciate it very much if anyone returns the models :)

8. MMS X-ray films
Large number of X-ray plates with legend are available in the MMS Imaging room for study, please approach the MMS counter for the list of X-ray slides available.

The 'Curriculum Map' for Foundation 1 and Semester 5 is almost ready for use and we would like to have about 10 representative each from M109 and M207 to view the Curriculum Map for comments. Please nominate 10 students from your batch to review the new Curriculum Map.

The Curriculum Map is fundamentally a system that links together the course objectives for each system/week with all the teaching facilities like Plenary, CSU, MMS, PBL and Hospital Visits.It serves to give students a better guide on their learning objectives and should also facilitate student feedback.

Hilltop Carpark Tarring
We are currently negotiating with the administration to have our hilltop carpark tarred. It will be properly painted to maximize space. However, it will not be sheltered. We have put up a poll on our blog ( imusrc.blogspot.com) to find out how much students are willing to pay for it per day. The closing date for the poll is 24th of July 2009. 2. Temperature Screening

Volunteers for Screening of Students
from Vice Presidents (Medicine & Pharmacy)

Due to the large number of students coming in next week (coinciding with the new pharmacy, health sciences & medical sciences batches), there will be a temperature screening at every entrance point for all staff and students from 7.45am to 4.30pm on Monday 13 July. We will need about 50 volunteers to help screen the temperatures in different shifts and would appreciate it if all batches can send at least 5 volunteers each. For those who would like to volunteer, please give your names to your respective batch representatives. Thank you.

Hi Sowmya and Karim,

Need some information from you and your batch on Community Medicine.

I've received some feedback from M107 and we'll be making some amendments to the schedule for your batch but I'd still need your input. Basically for Comm Med, currently the rough schedule is 2 days lecture followed by 3 days household survey or clinic research. Then you'll need to do a presentation 5 days later and submit a 40-60 pages report 3 weeks after that.

Feedback from M107 was that the time given to write the report was too short, so we'll be extending the time given from 3 weeks to 4 weeks. Also, for household survey, a lot of the M107 finished their household survey in a day or two, so in the end they didn't want to go for the third day, which was quite a problem because Prof. Yadav already made the arrangements with the buses and all, so he kindly asked if your batch would like to reduce the 3 days allocated for survey & research to 2 days instead, and an additional 1 day for write up or planning. However, that would mean that if you all are unable to complete the survey within the two days, you will have to make your own transport arrangements for the third day.

I think your batch will need to consider the following:

1. Would you like to have an additional day for planning (before the survey) or write-up (after the survey)

2. Do you want to rush through the household survey & how small do you want to split the groups for household survey. Smaller groups means you'll be able to complete the task faster and easier, but it will be more dangerous to travel in smaller groups. Last year, two girls were mugged while doing the household survey. Household survey can be very tiring and for everyone to go together is very tedious, but it's really up to your group.

Bear in mind that you are suppose to cover 250 houses for the household survey, in a group of about 15 to 20 people. It might seem daunting at first but some in M107 managed to cover all of them in 1 day. Mezhen also said that her group had a few problems in their data collection which could have been rectified had they had more time to plan.

Sowmya and Karim, I think it's best we seek the opinions of your batchmate and then decide which is best. Can you set up a poll or something on your blog? Or just tell me what's the general consensus will do. Get back to me if you need any more information yeah. Preferably give me your decision by Thursday if it's possible okay? Thanks.

Talk by Tun Mahatir and other announcements

1.Talk by Tun Mahatir

There will be a dialogue session with YABhg Tun Mahathir Mohammad on 7 July 2009, 9:30 a.m. The theme is "Leadership in Medicine & contribution to Nation Building".

We need an estimated 130 students from all the courses in IMU Bukit Jalil to attend the session as this is a very beneficial talk. However, if the response is overwhelming, more seat will be opened to more students. Those who are attending the talk will either be exempted from the class (if they have) or the class itself will be canceled.

We also need 5 questions from students to be forwarded during Q & A sessions and please kindly identify 5 students that will voice out the question. Please prepare the question by the 29th of June.

So overall we need at least 15 or more people from each batch.

H1N1 INFLUENZA

GUIDELINES FOR STUDENTS AND STAFF

In view of the increasing number of H1N1 influenza cases in the country and the occurrence of local transmission, all students and staff are strongly urged to adhere the following guidelines:

Hand hygiene is the single most important measure in preventing infection so

Clean your hands regularly and frequently.

Wash your hands with soap and water, and dry them thoroughly.
Use alcohol-based handrub if you don’t have immediate access to soap and water.
IMU will be providing alcohol handrub dispensers at designated locations like laboratories and the skills centre but all students and staff are strongly advised to carry on your person a small bottle of the alcohol hand rub. This is readily available at most pharmacies.

If you have symptoms of influenza like fever, cough, sore throat and body aches do not come to the university.

Go and see a doctor immediately.
Follow all local public health recommendations.
Keep your distance from well individuals as much as possible (at least 1 metre or 3 feet).
Cover your mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing, with tissues or other suitable materials, to contain respiratory secretions. Dispose of the material immediately after use or wash it.
Clean hands immediately after contact with respiratory secretions.
Improve airflow in your living space by opening windows as much as possible.

This email is for people who is going to be posting in KKB hospital.I know everything is just so blur about what things is going to happen there.But i wouldn't want to spoil all your surprise... But let me just put a list ofthings that is necessary for you to bring there.

1. Bed sheet, pillow, blanket
2. Mosquito coils, insect repellent, or anything that you might think will keepinsects away.
3. mineral water (however you can buy it there)
4. Shampoo, soap, toothbrush, tooth paste, toilet paper, comb
5. Snacks for Rx of hunger
6. Money - food, water, fun times
7. Power extension.... There is only 1 power supply in every room and 1 in theliving room. The one in the room is use to power your fan, so there is only 1power supply in the living room with 6 people in the house... So please bringextension...
8. Bring your note book.... It is really necessary
9. REMEMBER TO BRING YOUR LOG BOOK!!
10. Tendon Hammer is not really required, so don't waste time carrying itthere...

This is just a rough idea things that you need to bring...It was great fun there... Hope the rest of you posting there will enjoyyourself!

This is to inform you that from the 22nd to the 26th of June only three SRC council members will be available at the SRC office (Jin Lin, Pei Jin and Wee Kiat). This is because 6 of us have our EOS and the rest are not in KL. The duties should resume to normal on the 2nd week of June.

HEY!! Just to inform you guys, the SRC has set up a BLOG, FULL OF INFORMATION about important announcements and notices for students so if you check it out once in a while, you should know what's been happening in IMU =)

The link to IMU Library's vast online resources (online textbooks, questions, diagrams, etc.) are all put up on Nirmals (Secretary) page. All IMU computers are automatically logged in to these pages, but if you would like to access it from home please approach the library or the SRC Office.

(Also, IMU Library has a blog and a twitter, which announces the latest book/journal additions in the library, so please do encourage your batchmates to check it out.)

Secondly, SRC can now also be contacted through an internal line in IMU. Our extension number is 6601. There are phones in the cafeteria, PBL corridor and inside the student lounge as well.

Other ways of contacting us: visit our blog, our twitter, IMU Campus Forum, imusrc@gmail.com or simply come and visit us at the SRC Office at LG, inside the student lounge. We have a duty roster put up in the atrium on the SRC board and on our office door to let you know who will be in the office at what time.

To all of you doing IMU-PMS, Karim and myself have started the Pre-Matching for us to gauge our chances of getting into various universities in relative to our peers!

So this is how it's going to work.

1. Those doing PMS from student ID's 001-131, E-MAIL to Karim your TOP 10 university choices along with your Name and Student ID. Those with Student ID numbers 132 onwards (INCLUDING RESIT STUDENTS) e-mail me the details. Our e-mails are at the right side of the page >>>>>>>>

2. The list of Partner Medical Schools can be seen HERE.

The general requirements for some of the PMS are in the I drive, under Elective & Matching. PLEASE HAVE A LOOK TO KNOW WHICH UNIS YOU ARE ELIGIBLE FOR!

"We have a new pathway for those wanting to go to a PMS. It is the graduate entry to the Australian National University (ANU), the University of Warwick (UW) and the University of Queensland (UQ). This new pathway will allow you to better plan your finances. We only have 35 places."

"To get the BMedSci degree, you will have to remain for 1 more year to complete a research-based degree, the Bachelor of Medical Sciences (BMedSci) at the IMU. You must achieve an upper second class degree. If you do not achieve an upper second class degree, or have failed a major examination in Phase 1, every effort will be made to offer you a place in an undergraduate PMS. In the unlikely event that there is no PMS place, there will be a place for you in the IMU Clinical School. "

3. To those who want to apply to Jefferson or any of the Post Grad schools, still put in your top 10 (though you guys will be matched first) BEAR IN MIND THAT THERE ARE 3 POST GRAD SCHOOLS - QUEENSLAND, ANU AND WARWICK so to those who want to do post grad, YOUR TOP 3 SHOULD BETWEEN THESE 3, followed by other unis. To those who want to apply to Jefferson, put Jefferson as your top choice and rank the other 9 unis in order of preference should you change your mind about applying for Jefferson.

4. PLEASE BE AS HONEST AS POSSIBLE and not be SOO "KIASU" AND SECRETIVE about your choices so that "others won't know and hence won't consider that university" (if that makes sense).

To you kiasu folks out there, if you don't want others to go to a university, the point would be to show that that particular university is popular, right??? MEANS you HAVE to truthfully put it as your prefered choice!!!

5. PLEASE TYPE OUT THE FULL NAME OF THE UNIVERSITY AS PER THE IMU WEBSITE! i.e UNIVERSITY OF MELBOURNE instead of just MELBOURNE. This is to make it easier for me to just cut and paste your selections into Excell as opposed to individually adding the UNIVERSITY OF.

Why do we want everything in full? For standardization purposes so later when we want to sort the unis, it will be easier. Otherwise, Excell will interpret "University of Melbourne" and "Melbourne" as separate.

6. DEADLINE IS THE DAY OF OUR ENDO-REPRO- RENAL Summative! (29th May 2009)!!

The conference is set to bring together medical students from around Malaysia as well as foreign countries to one platform. This conference will be hosted by 3 universities ; International Medical University, Seremban , University Putra Malaysia and University Malaya.

3. Convocation

Convocation will be on 30 May 2009. This is the first time Convocation will be held in Bukit Jalil Campus instead of Sheraton hotel! How exciting!

This is for the following reasons:

1. To showcase the campus, allow parents to experience the environment their child has been studying in and such. Also, nostalgia!

2. To built a stronger rapport between faculty, administration and students

3. To develop the sense of belonging in students

To make this a success, the administration will need a lot of manpower and we would like to recruit 25 ushers to help out on 30th of May.

Breakfast and lunch will be provided, along with a special chance to be treated like a staff and allowed entry to the staff lounge, and an opportunity to experience the grandeur and be part of Convocation.

At the moment we can't confirm any incentives for volunteers, but we really do need your help to make the convocation of our seniors a special one.

1) Mock PMS Matching - I'll be printing out the namelist of our batch. Pls check

I regret to inform you that the ECA computer in the student lounge has been abused by students. I would like to remind everyone that the ECA Computer is for ECA purposes only. Also, on May 5th the computer was not switched off and thus was running overnight. This is detrimental to the CPU.

The computer will soon be password locked and students will need to get the council members to open it as the computers are the under the charge of SSD and thus SRC needs to keep an account of the usage.

3. Batchrep Meeting Minutes
Batchrep Meeting, 27th April 2009

IT & Library
- The pay for students who have taken up part time jobs in the IT department and the library has been fixed at RM8 per hour.
- Printers will be outsourced by midyear and so new printers will be brought in.
- Paper will be provided.
- Printing price shall remain at 10 sen per page for black and white printing.
- Antivirus programme in the computers are not outdated. The programme used in the computers is the Kaspersky Enterprise Version (6.0), not the Kaspersky Personal Version (8.0). Version 6.0 offers the same protection as Version 8.0.
- Students are required to scan their thumbdrives before and after using the computers in the library and E-Labs.
- One E-Lab is ‘swept’ per month.
- Phone lines will be installed in the E-Labs for students to report problems in computers to the IT department immediately.
- Computers in the lecture halls and MPH will be replaced in June.

Student Lounge
- Damages to equipment/facilities in student lounge must be reported immediately to ensure that it is fixed promptly.
- No eating or drinking is allowed in the student lounge. This is to ensure that the new equipment does not get dirty and to prevent a rodent infestation in the lounge.
- Students are only allowed to eat and drink in the Executive Lounge in the SRC room and the cafeteria.
- There aren’t any water coolers in the lounge or anywhere nearby. However, Jumbo provides free water in the cafeteria.
- Students must ensure that lights, AC and all other electrical appliances that are not in use must be switched off before leaving the lounge.

Outsiders in IMU
- The SRC must be informed of any outsiders who would like to visit IMU at least one week before the stipulated visit. If that is not possible, SRC must be informed two days before the visit.
- The visitor’s name, IC number and handphone number must be submitted to the SRC.
- This measure is to prevent any unfortunate incidents from occurring within the IMU and as a means of tightening the IMU’s security.

Other Concerns
- The E-Labs have changed names but not the printers, causing confusion.
- H Drives of every faculty is accessible to all students.
-Conclusion : Names and proper labels shall be put up. H Drive will accessibility will be corrected. IT department will be informed about this.
- The Pink Sage was too expensive and when asked to lower its prices, the quality and quantity of the food was also lowered. They were then asked to leave.
- Another food provider will be brought in soon to ensure a variety of food.

Dear All,

On the 5th May 2009 WHO will announce SAVE LIVES: Clean Your Hands
Vision 2020. WHO will also launch the revised hand hygiene toolkit and
the revised WHO Guidelines for Hand Hygiene in Health Care.

The date 5th May links the ‘fives’ together of the 5th day of the 5th
month with the WHO 5 Moments for Hand Hygiene. The aim, as outlined on
the website, is to be able to officially promote hand hygiene globally
on an annual basis every year on this day beginning in 2010.

The students of the M2/07 cohort will launch a hand wash campaign at the
IMU on 5th May. The IMU is One of the 5 institutes in Malaysia out of
4471 institutes worldwide that has declared commitment and registered
for activities for this global programme.

Hey there to everyone involved in the Hand Washing Campaign!

I need to see all the posters and articles tomorrow so we start putting them up. Also...is someone making the lettering for the HAND WASHING DAY sign we are putting at the atrium wall??

I will ask AAD tomorrow for permission to put up our little "exhibition" in the atrium...they should allow as it is a project that IMU wanted us to do.

Inauguration

SRC 09/10 will officially inaugurated on Monday, 4th of May at 12.30 PM - 1.30 PM at Auditorium A.

Everyone is invited.

This will be a great time to get to know who will be representing you for the incoming year!
Canteen Feedback

We will be having a Canteen Committee meeting pretty soon and I have heard that there are already some concerns about the canteen from the students.

So please get some feedback from your batchmates on the canteen and pass it up to me by saturday, 2nd May.

It would be highly appreciated if the comments included both the positive and the negative, because if they are doing something right we also do want to let them know to make sure they keep on doing it.

Alternatively, I have created a small poll on IMU Campus for everyone to comment on, or they can email their comments directly to imusrc@gmail.com with the subject being "Canteen".
IMU Cup Committee

IMU Cup is currently recruiting it's core committee. Those interested can take the form near the escalator or approach Mira (the incoming Sports representative) or Sheahlin (from SSD) about it.

The Standard Operating Procedure is as follows:

President/ Vice President – Oversee the entire organizing committee. Set meeting dates and agendas. Ensure that all events have an event captain. Oversee all rules and regulations.

Secretary - Prepares and sets up the IMU Cup Calendar. Prepare the post-IMU Cup report which is to be submitted to the SRC & Student Affairs Department.

Vice-Secretary - Writes and prepares minutes for each organizing committee meeting. The minutes are to be typed up and e-mailed to all committee members and the SRC.

Treasurer - Creates a proposed budget for the IMU Cup. Liaise with SRC treasurer and SSD regarding the feasibility of the proposed budget. Collect receipts from committee members for reimbursement purposes. Compile all transactions regarding the IMU Cup. Prepare the budget report for the post-IMU Cup report.

Vice Treasurer - Assumes the treasurer’s duties if he/she is absent. Order the medals for all events. Ensures the trophies for each event are available and carries out the necessary replacement/repair of missing/damaged trophies.

Publicity - In charge of all publicity aspect of IMUCUP. In charge of opening and closing ceremonies.

Games Coordinator (5 positions, each will be assigned 5 or 6 games) - Liaise with Event Captains to coordinates the rules and regulations of games assigned to them. Report any dispute or complain during the games to the IMUCUP committee. Update the scoreboard accordingly. Collect receipts from Event Captains.

Profits will go to Kiwanis Malaysia, United Voice and also towards the Miss Malaysia India CARE ASSOCIATION's Human Trafficking Awareness workshops in schools in Selangor, KL and Melaka.

The workshops focus on the issue of human trafficking. One third of women and children trafficked in the world are form South East Asia and Malaysia is a hotspot transit station. Majority of victims are girls between 15 and 25.
